The late late show...

Yet again, I nearly let my laziness and eating plans disrupt another day of marathon training! Tonight was my late night at work therfore, by the time I got home around quarter to seven it was time for dinner, a large meal and a football match on the television later I finally get around to leaving the house and going for my scheduled 3 miler. It was 22:30 when I left, I havent ran that late before and you can feel the general fatigue from the day taking its toll, as well as the rapidly digesting meal.

No iPod tonight, thought it would be better if I didnt run with it, I dont exactly live in the ghetto, but you never know what nut job is out there - wanting my stuff!

So onto the run, a quick one tonight, probably because I wanted to get home and go to bed as quick as possible. Tonights run felt really good, no sign of any trouble with any muscle pain or the like. If it wasnt so late I could have probably done another 2 miles on top of the 3 I did tonight - best not over do it.

3.1 Miles in 28 Minutes

morning james, got a running-related question for you. i'm going to start jogging again next week (hopefully all my injuries are past me now!) and i was just wondering when you think the best time of day to go is....i mean, like first thing in the morning is surely not a good idea on an empty stomach??? how long should you wait for your food to go down before running? any idea when during the day your energy levels are at their highest??? cheers!

it really depends upon what else you do during your day, I only run in the evening because I have a very boring 9-5 job, first thing in the morning shouldn't be too much of a problem as long as you have a light breakfast before hand - bananas are good (i call them power sticks). Most marathons and half marathons begin around 8-9 in the morning so its quite common. After a main meal I tend to leave 4-5 hours, the only time I usually run after a meal is on a sunday. My ideal world training would be to get up grab a banana and go running at first light, come back shower, have the rest of the day at leisure, perhaps go swimming in the afternoon. Its more fun in daylight, and cars can see you better! I shall of course be implementing my ideal world scheme when I go warm weather training in Egypt in Feb :-P

Whenever you run though make sure you are well hydrated, it will prevent muscle cramps, (the darker your urine the more you need to drink)

I will now ignore all of the above advice and go running after gorging myself on pizza at lunchtime, not drinking enough and running around Bideford Green in the dark!

well running at night is really out of the question because, well, i get scared! i could run with one of my mates but he'd run laps around me so it wouldnt be fair on him. and remember, i'm a student, 8-10am, dosent exist! though, once the weather starts to improve and summer spring arrives maybe i could pull myself out of bed (providing i'm hangover-free). and i hate bananas, with passion. though thats what i said about tuna and look at me now, i eat it every night for dinner....

p.s. i drink lots and lots of water anyway, so much so that i'm constantly running to the toilet....like i need to now. seriously. grrrr
